Boxing History

Boxing It’s one of the oldest of all contact sport and has been dated back to the latest 1000 BC.
Boxing were practiced in placed like Africa, Rome, Egypt, Iraq, and by the Greek. In the beginning boxer then used to be call “PUGILIST and was no rules, matches weren’t by round or by time limit, no weight class and the only way to win or finish the boxing match was by Knock out(KO) or by death.
In the middle of the 1700’s a heavyweight champion named Jack Broughton wrote the first rules in boxing history, by doing it, Jack was protecting other fighter from injuries and death After the 1800’s more modification to the sport of boxing were made;
• The Ring was 24 square foot with ropes.
• No head butt.
• No low blow or below the belt.
• Three minutes round with one minute rest.
• When a fighter was down, had 30 second to rise.
• Introduce of glove with padding.
Following all these new rules in the 1900 a dentist from Europe invented the mouthpiece, and was first used in a professional fight ten years later by a welterweight fighter.
By the middle of the 1970 trying to improve and made the sport safer, some boxing organization made changes to the following;
• The title fights from 15 rounds to 12 rounds.
• The non-title fights from 12 rounds to 10 rounds.
Even with all these changes tragedy has been difficult to evade. Since 1900’s according with the Manuel Velazquez Report more than 1465 fighter have died; during a fight, after the fight, in training including amateur, professional and woman.
Still this number are lower in percentage compared with others sport.
Woman and Boxing History

Gamboa

Tonight I saw an incredible mix of power and boxing skill. The 2004 gold medallist Cuban with more than 200 hundreds fight in the amateur and in his 11 pro fight display power and foot work not noticeable in a long time. Timing was the key in his win. Gamboa show that his ability and his experience can take him to the higher level in boxing, and if continuing with this pace , he can become a Champ by the end of the year. Take a look to this guy, and that what everyone should begin to do, stop protecting your fighter and take them to the next step without taking baby step or protecting them, once in a real fight they don't known how to react to pressured,or to the next level of competition. I believe with so many venues to become champ we are making Boxing more weak compared to other sport. Remember back in the day Boxing used to be the KING of the sport and is time to bring Boxing to the highest pedestal in sport. We need more fighter, promoter and matchmaker who will take a risk and put good shows.

The Corner

In boxing nothing is more important than a good corner, in training they do thier job by working hard their fighter, after training day, a trainer still working. Day or night, Monday or Sunday they think, analized, and put together a plan for their fighter.
In some cases the trainer go the extra mile, in other cases they are more that trainer, they become father figures, uncle, friends and more, but as a trainer we need to know our boxer and known they limitations, to avoid any further damage to them.
When ever a fighter is in trouble as a trainer, we need to asked how they feel, but the judgement and the decision come from a strong trainer the one respect his fighter,. I rather have my fighter to loose a fight and come back another day than have to caried a guilt. Its time for the commission to put some kind of training or clases to be abe to identify when a fighter is in problems.
Trainers need to do thier job and protect our fighter.

TexasSlugfest#4

Tonite was a good nite in Fort Worth, TX. The Promoter Wayne Harrison put an excellent show, by putting together all upcoming fighter from this area in Texas.....
In the first fight Joey Doommoodie put a show since round one by using his jab and combination mixing it all up and down. In round two was more of the same , but by round three Doomoodie excell with the jab and hook with right hand that put his opponent in bad shape, by doing that and with the continues attack , he finish the bout., ending a two consecutives draw fight, this time he took care of business.
In the second fight of the night Bryant Butler draw with Ross the Boss, The fight was entreteintment with both fighter taking advantage of the other one, but still after the annaouncement of the decision the crowd beging to boo the decision, for many of the expert the fight should go to the favor of Bryant Butler, a rematch is in the future.... Another fight was Chaps Huggins which did work hard tonite to get a win.... and the show close with Anthony Smith who at time was looking sharp and other time way too tire..... but won the fight.....
Good Job to Wayne Harrisson Promotion hope to see you soon.... In attencdance tonite was Vanessa Juares, Paulie Ayala, Felix "Falu" Quinones

Nutrition In Boxing

For the past few weeks, I been around boxing again, and one question that have open my eyes has being nutrition.
While in the past, I used to work with overweight person and have achieved almost excellent on dropping them to their desired weight.
Now its different, I am trying to bring fit boxer to a weight class. Fighter blow (weight) between fights, and coming back to make weight sometimes is grueling, hard, and very painful. For a fighter the goal is loose weight and stay strong, Boxing is a sport that demands energy from our body system.
Boxing Requires a high-level of strength endurance to always attain trowing powerful combination punches, jabs, speed, flexibility and agility. and on top of that work road, which translate to speed work (Short Sprint and Long Sprint) and endurance (3 to 10 Miles running) depend on how many rounds a boxer is fighting could be 4, 6 or 12 round.
By saying that a nice high-carbohydrate diet to maintain stamina, refill lost glycogen stores. Mixed with a percent of Fat, and the other percent coming from Protein
Eating healthy is the key to a healthy and fit boxer. Some of the stuff that a fighter should be and shouldn't be eating like;
DON'T
Junk food,Try to avoid water-like substances such as sodas, juice or lemonade. Although these may contain water and some carbohydrates, they also contain a greater amount of the wrong type of carbohydrate which can eventually lead to decreased performance. Avoid high-fructose corn syrup and excessive table sugar, even when trying to gain weight. These include candy, juices, desserts, baked goods, etc
DO;
Drink plenty of water, sport drink like Accelerade, G2HO, Endurox, Getoreade. Choose healthy fat sources such as nuts, avocadoes and fish. Grill, Steam turkey, chicken, eggs(WHITE), fish ,lean cuts of beef, tofu, low fat cottage cheese.Fiber grains, vegetables, fruits, and cereals. Low Residue Foods
Low-fiber cereal (corn flakes, rice bubbles),White bread,Jam, honey,Juice, low-fat,milk, sports drink,Tinned fruit,Jelly,Clear soup (e.g. chicken broth),White pasta
White rice,Tomato based pasta sauce,Liquid meal (Meal Replacement Shake.

By all these saying a fighter is a endurance ATHLETES, and need plenty of food derive of energy.

In this Corner

In this Corner. Is a tribute those who made the sacrifice.
The decision wasn't easy, but we all made with no obligation. Everything begin by raising your right hand, follow by some procedure, then you been ship out to your first assignment, Basic Training once there is no turning back. This is were you begin a journey forever. You learned the most important tool "Team Work" were you learn the importance of being part of a elite group, were you will obey someone, were someone will take care of you no matter what is the cause. They will carrying you, pushing you through some obstacle, they will take you step by step till you learn, prepared you to teach other, you will play games, do physical training over and over till you execute as a team. You will learn the meaning of being a Warrior, a true hero, no the one in the movies, cartoon etc.. being a hero is: taking care of your soldier, your unit, your family your community and help others around the world to come together as a team and fight for freedom. And is freedom what we all want, but don't come easy, some will fall prior to get to the battle, some will suffer emotionally, some will bleed, other will surrender their life for our country, our families and for a better world without any complaint. and for those soldiers, I take my hat to you, because you are like I used to said everyday while in uniform and now I said even loud it you are "Proud Americans"

De La Hoya vs Forbes cont.

La misma pregunta de nuevo. Valdra la pena ver De LA Hoya vs Forbes?

Eso todo depende;

Fight of the Week

This week ,the biggest fight is De La Hoya vs Forbes at LA Home Depot Center, even that boxing critics think isn't. It been more than eight years since De La Hoya last visit to the area.
We all known that Forbes isn't at the level of De La Hoya, but still he has a champion mentality (IBF 2000-2002) and lost his title unable to make the weight requirement.
Comming back to the fight its is important that De LA Hoya win this fight and move on to fight Mayweather in September.
And yet the biggest news in this figth, is the Mayweather's last name. At first Forbes trainer was Roger's, Floyds Uncle, but Floyd didn't like the ideas saying that he could loose allot of money, well in the other corner Floyd Sr. is in charge.. After trhee week under Roger training Forbes have Jeff as a new trainer,,,what a mess... Anyway the expert has choose De La hoya to win the fight, but Forbes could spoiled the action in September, if that happen Who's to blame?
Just in
Today at the weight in both fighter weight at 150 lbs without any pbroblems
